Sulphuric Ether

It is highly flammable, volatile, clear, and flammable organic liquid.
Its heavy vapors can travel along surfaces to a distant ignition source, posing a significant fire hazard.
"Sulphuric" simply refers to the sulfuric acid used as a catalyst during its synthesis.

Anesthesia:
First successful general anesthetics. Pioneering physicians first demonstrated its ability to block pain during surgery in the 1840s.
Early Refrigeration:
The cooling effect of evaporating ether inspired some of the earliest mechanical refrigeration and ice-making machines.
