Ruston-Hornsby engines
Collection of massive engines, known as Dunmunkle Sumpoilers
Thanks to a dedicated group of volunteers who have come together to fully restore these magnificent engines,
bringing them back to their original shiny and perfect working order. Ready to share with the public.
These Dunmunkle Sumpoilers were originally used to generate power the historic Wimmera Inland Freezing Works refrigeration operations in Murtoa back in 1911.
These massive machines weighing in excess of 20 tonnes still sit on their original bed, on the original site at the East end of Murtoa
oppersite the famous Stick shed>
Watching them run is a truly unforgettable experience and a real priviledge as the Sumpoilers are only shown in action during Murtoa’s Big Weekend, held at the start of October each year.
NOTE:
Our Dunmunkle Sumpoilers are only open by appointment. NOT available for casual viewing.
We apologise for any inconvenience.
It is a rare sight to see a in one place.
